Ever wonder how a professional lounge pianist plays
effortlessly, without scores, with different variations every
night? Ever wonder how a musician is able to improvise
anything that comes to his head?
We are always surprised to find out that many people think
that playing music is all about reading and playing. It actually
means playing and improvising freely. Though reading proper
music notation is important, relying TOTALLY on pre-written
scores for both hands to "play the tune" is not the ideal way.
We learn to SPEAK languages. Similarly, for music, we
should learn to IMPROVISE!
Take any typical Grade 8 classical pianist for instance. Ask
them to play & improvise a simple 'Happy Birthday' song.
Very likely they can't, simply because they don't have the
